Do words have energy?

Do words have power or energy? Words typically just roll off your tongue, but have you ever just sat there and really felt into a word?

You probably have had some interaction with a word and how it feels. For an example, when someone is upset or angry they may say a word that makes you feel a certain way or the opposite when they are happy. What about words that are said when not in a heightened emotion. Have you ever sat and felt into those words? Guessing you probably haven’t, but should we?

Let’s break it down a little more as you may be a little confused on where I’m going with this. Below I’ve put two sentences together using the word “work or worked”. Read the first sentence below, pause and feel into it, then read the second sentence doing the same thing.

It was hard work cleaning up all the leaves.

I worked in the yard today cleaning up all the leaves.

Which sentence felt heavy vs expansive? Let’s look at a couple other sentences.

My job is an commercial Interior Designer.

My purpose is to create meaningful interior spaces.

Do they both have the same feeling inside your body when spoken? Does one feel more positive and exciting vs. negative and limiting?

Our words are powerful when spoken. We create an energy within ourselves either negative or positive by just speaking the word. Some of that has to do with our belief system (something I’ll get into in another post). Words can give us a sense of, this is bad or this is good. Of course this isn’t something that you are consciously thinking about when speaking, but what if you became more aware of the words you use. Do you think your being would change?

Have you ever heard, “what you put out there is what you’ll get back”? Hmmm…think about that for a moment. Does that make sense? Well we know that if someone is yelling at us and saying you “you messed up” or anything else in an angry negative manner, you know the reaction you’ll get back will be negative majority of the time. I remember earlier in my career I was working with someone that was from another country. She hated the United States and was always saying negative things about the US and many other things. I noticed over time that I too was becoming more negative because I was surrounded by that energy.

So really listen and feel into words, and ask yourself; does it give me a warmth vs. coolness, or excited vs. limiting feeling inside your heart space/body.

Here are some more examples…

My work allows me to travel.

I travel around the United States. (which is a state of being).

My job is to create commercial interiors.

I create commercial interiors.

What do you do for work?

What do you create for a living? or What is your purpose?

What we all want is to feel more expansive (also a really good word to say and feel into). So what if you used words such as; create, creativity, and purpose more. Would you feel more expansive or limited?

So I ask the question again…..Do words have power or energy?
